The LVDB-03 Louis Varius project marks a breathtaking third chapter in Louis Vuitton’s odyssey through independent watchmaking, a collaboration that reimagines the 18th-century Sympathique marvel for the modern voyager. At the heart of this union is a dialogue between the celestial and the artisanal, featuring a wristwatch that breathes in tandem with a monumental master clock.
The aesthetic is a deep dive into the legendary De Bethune Blue, with a polished titanium Tambour case treated through proprietary thermal oxidation to achieve a color as vast as the night sky. This vibrant hue is framed by hand-polished platinum lugs, creating an architectural silhouette that dances with shifting light.
The dial is a miniature cosmos where white gold pins and fine gold leaf are set by hand into a Milky Way motif, subtly aligning to reveal the Louis Vuitton initials within the constellations. Every detail, from the rose gold and flame-blued spherical day-and-night indicator to the faceted hands, serves as a testament to the shared language of precision and wonder.
Beyond the wrist, the project revives the enigmatic Sympathique mechanism first conceived by Abraham-Louis Breguet in 1795. The contemporary clock is a tour de force of 763 components, featuring a base decorated with blued meteorite and a rose gold dome engraved with the constellation of Hercules.
When the wristwatch is placed within its cradle, the clock automatically winds the movement and resets the time every two hours to ensure perfect synchrony. It is a seamless gesture of mechanical intimacy, housed within bespoke titanium trunks that reflect the apex of rarity from the Louis Vuitton Asnières ateliers.
