The true measure of a classic is its ability to transition seamlessly from a morning meeting to a moonlit soirée. With the debut of the Saxonia Annual Calendar, A. Lange & Söhne has delivered a stylish companion for any occasion. Set to be unveiled at Watches and Wonders 2026, this timepiece is a testament to the brand's dedication to understated elegance and technical finesse. Every detail of the watch has been meticulously considered to ensure it feels as good on the wrist as it looks to the eye.
The A. Lange & Söhne design team once again focused on superb legibility, ensuring that the most important information, such as the time and date, can be easily perceived at first glance. The dial is a study in lucid configuration, merging auxiliary displays for the day of the week, the month, and subsidiary seconds into a harmonious whole. This clarity is enhanced by a reflecting surface that intensifies the three-dimensional effect of the dial, created through a combination of filigreed and prominent azurage decoration techniques.
At the six o'clock position, a star-spangled nocturnal sky provides the backdrop for a gold lunar disc treated with a deep-blue coating. This miniaturised image of the Milky Way, featuring 428 stars, is more than just a beautiful face. The precision of the moon-phase display is exemplary of the manufacture's aspiration, as it needs to be corrected by one day only after 122.6 years. It is a poetic reminder of the celestial mechanics that govern our time.
Beneath the understated dial lies the new self-winding manufacture movement, the L207.1 calibre. This mechanical heart features a unidirectional winding central rotor with a centrifugal mass in 950 platinum and provides a maximum power reserve of 60 hours when fully wound. In line with the Lange philosophy, every one of the 491 movement parts is elaborately finished and assembled by hand, a standard that has been part of the manufacture's DNA since Ferdinand Adolph Lange established it in 1845.
A glance through the sapphire-crystal caseback reveals the opulent beauty of Saxon precision watchmaking. Traditional elements such as the hand-engraved balance cock and screwed gold chatons offer a striking contrast to the sleek, modern exterior. The well-proportioned case, with a modest diameter of 36.0 millimetres and a height of 9.8 millimetres, ensures a snug fit that can be slipped effortlessly under a shirt cuff.
The Saxonia Annual Calendar arrives with two distinct personalities to suit different sartorial tastes. The version in 750 pink gold features a cool-toned grey dial for a captivating contrast, while the 750 white gold model is paired with an argenté-coloured dial for a look of pure understatement. Both models are secured with a hand-stitched alligator leather strap and a matching gold prong buckle, completing a design that A. Lange & Söhne has balanced to perfection.
